About the staff at Treetops
People play a crucial part in the childcare sector and at Treetops we realise the need to invest in them. Our nurseries are staffed with carefully selected, highly motivated nursery professionals, to ensure your child receives the highest quality care and education.
The Support Centre team are extremely qualified and totally committed to the development of our nursery employees. We have in place the infrastructure to support the nurseries, ensuring we have dedicated professionals at each of our locations. Each carer at Treetops has an individual training plan and everyone is annually appraised. This training is monitored and reviewed on a regular basis.
A glimpse into the life of a Nursery Manager
I’ve just arrived at nursery and everywhere is buzzing, children are being greeted by staff and I make my way around the rooms to meet everyone. It’s lovely to see the children happily skipping into nursery, running to their favourite staff member and greeting me with a smile and a cuddle. I move through the rooms to make sure all the staff and children are in, doing the register as I go, checking ratios are being maintained.
In the Lion cubs room I kick off my shoes before stepping onto our new honey coloured carpet and meet my beautiful babies for the day. One child comes over for a cuddle, which is great in the morning, just what you need! She then sits with me while I talk to the staff team in the room. We talk about the importance of tidying their room as they go along which will help the babies feel more relaxed and create a organised but homely atmosphere. I also talk about setting the room up before they go outside to play ready for when they come back in. This not only focuses the staff on following the birth to three planning closely, but it makes their play room more inviting and attractive for when they return after outdoor playtime.
Wandering back through the nursery, I focus on the staff as well as the children who are now all engrossed in various activities. A highly motivated team, they sparkle and ooze enthusiasm! It must be something to do with the parents evening we held last night and the praise & positive feedback they received!
I check that the correct menus are displayed, the fruit and veggie batons are chopped ready for the mornings snack and that there is fresh drinking water available for everyone. I then double check staff have planned activities ready for day to cover with the children. All checks have been carried out and everyone and everything is ready to roll!
I head to the office and I start off my day writing a ‘to do’ list, prioritising my tasks. Invoicing is first on the list, followed by sorting out the grant funding. I then write letters requesting donations for our Summer Fair raffle to various local companies. We have built up excellent relationships with the community and always do well - fingers crossed again for this year!
It's time for Spanish so I head to our pre school room where I am greeted by “Buenas dias”. We count from 1-10 in Spanish and the children amaze me with their ability and pronunciation.
When we reach ten one child shouts out, “Muy bien” – something I would normally end with! This really makes me smile and I realise what budding linguists they are. They are so rewarding at this age and like a sponge, thirsty for knowledge and all things exciting and new.
After Spanish is over, I head down to the office to finish the paperwork. The phone rings a few times. I have two parents call and ask for some details on the nursery. I invite one parent to come and visit us this afternoon and the other is a parent relocating who was recommended our by the company her husband is going to be working for.
As I walk through the Happy Hippos room the girls are preparing to sing a song with the children before lunch. As I call out to the children to all lie down, I can see the excitement in their faces as they know our favourite song! They lie down on the floor and I start to sing, “See the little bunnies sleeping”. They are giggling to each other and I spot two children with their faces very close together uncontrollably laughing on the floor because they are bunnies – it’s a real sight!
I then go into the Clever Croc room and check the planning matches the activities in progress. The staff are working to Early Learning Goals and today it’s “Printing with different shapes”. The area of learning is ‘Mathematics’ – we are beginning to talk about the shapes of everyday objects. We discuss how we can use the objects, looking at their shapes, asking the children what the shapes are and using them to print. After feeding the babies I go to have my lunch break… something I try to do whenever I can - it clears the head ready for the afternoon's activities.
